5 Things I'm Loving Lately: The Take a Chill Pill Edition đź’Š

Ahhhh, yes. Relaxing. One of the top 3 things I’m terrible at. But I’m trying, alright? And if you need a little help, these are a few items I’ve tried, tested, and loved to assist you on your journey to peace of mind. Until your dog starts barking or your kid starts screaming or an amber alert goes off when you have your headphones in (there is NOTHING more instantly terrifying). Breathe in, breathe out, and let’s get into it!

The Sacred Ritual Immunity Bath Salts - $26

I went to chip and Joanna land, and all I got were these bath salts. Actually, I’m pretty sure I got a coffee, too. But anyways, Justin and I stopped off in Waco to check out The Silos on our way to Austin, and I picked up these bath salts because I’ve decided I’m going to take more baths this year. It’s kind of a production because we have a shower/tub combo, and I have to clean the entire thing before I get in there to take a bath. But you know what? It probably needed to be cleaned anyways. I feel like baths help me calm down, and I’m trying to incorporate more of that into my life. The second I opened the tester, I was sold. The scent of clove oil is divine, and that in tandem with the other immune boosting oils, pink Himalayan salt, and dried roses create such a lovely bath experience. This would make a great gift for a care package (isn’t everyone sick right now?) or for yourself. You deserve it!

Waterproof Relaxing Spa Bath Pillow - $21.99

FYI this just so happens to be the top rated bath pillow on Amazon. And if you, too, are on the quest to take more baths, I definitely recommend checking this out. I used it for the first time over the weekend, and it was really nice not to feel the cold, hard tub on my back. Talk about a vibe killer! It adhered to the tub/shower wall easily, cleaned easily, and felt pretty comfy. A positive addition to my at-home spa routine!

Lunya Sleep Mask - $48

I’ve seen dozens of ads for these, but I’d never pulled the trigger because they’re a liiiittle spendy. But to my surprise, my neighbor (ILY SAM) suggested that my husband get me one of these for Christmas, and wow. It’s worth every penny. This buttery soft mask glides over your eyes and blocks out light while keeping your face and hair smooth and comfortable. I sleep on a satin pillowcase, so between that and this mask, bedtime is the best time! The silk is washable, so it’s easy to care for. I have the black silk, and it really is heaven. Also you should trust me because I have several eye masks. Like at least 5. And look how happy this girl is! It’s a no-brainer.

Narcissist Body Scrub - $16

This is another item I received as a Christmas gift. It was from my mother-in-law, and at first I was like, “What is she trying to say?” And my husband assured me she didn’t know what the word “narcissist” meant so I let it go. Anyways, this is a limited-ingredient sugar scrub that smells incredible and gives a really nice exfoliation. The oils leave your skin feeling oh so smooth and hydrated, just be careful stepping out of the shower — especially if you use it on your feet! If you live in Nashville, there’s a new Buff City Soap location just outside of the Mall at Green Hills by the movie theater. They carry soaps, scrubs, and all kinds of self care products. Check them out if you’re in the area!

The peloton App - $12.99/month for app membership + Tax

I canceled my gym membership when covid hit and have yet to go back. But I signed up for a free trial of the Peloton app at the beginning of last year, and I have been a paid subscriber ever since. The cycling workouts have been instrumental in my recovery post-accident, and it’s a really great tool to use on your own or alongside a friend or group (the social features are pretty cool!). There are also a ton of workouts if you don’t have a Bike or Tread. Their on demand library is huge — yoga, walking, strength training, barre, and so many other options. But if working up a sweat doesn’t help you calm that beautiful brain of yours, great news: they have a meditation library with over a thousand classes. You can filter through options based on length, class type, and instructor. Honestly, I’ve been kind of bad about using the app for physical activity lately, but sometimes you’ve gotta get your mind right before you can do anything else, and this is perfect for that. If I’m feeling frazzled, emotional, etc I can log in and take 5 minutes or more and try to get myself in a better headspace. If it doesn’t work, I’ll do another one. I’ve talked to friends about meditation before — some are very into it, and others shy away from it because they’re too distracted to try. Meditation isn’t about being perfect, and I think that’s why I (a recovering perfectionist) enjoy it so much. It’s about meeting myself where I’m at and figuring out what’s going on inside. And for about the same price as eating lunch out, I have access to a lot of really good coping tools. Don’t worry, I already have the bad ones on lockdown lol. If you want to try out the app for the first time, click this link for a free 60 day guest pass!
