V-Day Style: Pretty Little Underthings (3rd Edition)

Happy February, babes!

The month of love is upon us, so you know what that means — it’s time for the 3rd installment of one of our most popular posts! This year’s picks are a mix of cozy, feminine, and athletic finds. Some structured and some less-restrictive options. Some florals. Some neutrals. Some meant for lounging. Some meant for…other activities 😉

And all are NSS reader-approved!

Whether you’re celebrating with someone special or celebrating yourself (go off, sis!), I hope you find something fun to add to your wardrobe, or at least a little inspiration along the way. And hey, if you’re still on the fence about V-day, we’ve added a special twist to this year’s post just for you, so keep reading ❤️

V-Day Floral Embroidery Lingerie Set ($207) by For Love and Lemons

Age: 35

Personal Style: Girly and extra romantic. Lots of pink!

Why I love these items: They’re super feminine, sexy and a little bit over-the-top, which I love!

Relationship status: My beautiful partner and I have been together for just over 5 years. We have 3 fluffy rescue kitties who are the loves of our lives. Our favorite place to be is at home with them.

Valentine’s Day plans: We LOVE Valentine’s Day and always celebrate big. A special V-Day breakfast with fancy drinks, chocolates, flowers, balloons and surprises, and then later, a dinner reservation at one of our favorite spots. The kitties get presents too and they love to play in all the ribbons and boxes. We also love to give special Valentine’s treats to our friends and families. Did I mention WE LOVE VALENTINE’S DAY.

Worst V-Day memory: Luckily I seem to have blocked out any bad V-Day memories since I can’t remember one (probably for my own good, I’m sure middle school had its moments). This is one holiday that has always felt fun and magical, even throughout all the years I was single. But that’s probably because it’s the PINKEST DAY OF THE YEAR. *heart-eyes, heart-eyes*

Heart Coat ($15,900) by Saint Laurent

Age: 32

Personal Style: I would describe my style as Accidentally Fabulous but the other day someone called me Intentionally Messy Chic

Why I love this item: Who wouldn’t want to be TWINSIES with Rihanna for VDay!? Just a casual 16k..but I drool for Saint Laurent!

Relationship status: I’m in a live-in relationship of one year

Valentine’s Day plans: For Valentine’s Day we will cook a meal together in our new home to start traditions for our family. Although (because he is from Spain) he did ask if he “needs to (based on American traditions) buy me anything other than the flowers he will get me” ...so I guess we do flowers!

My worst Valentine’s Day was 2012 when my boyfriend Chance asked for a record player. He made me dinner and a I got him one, and he used it to play Don’t Come Around Here No More by Tom Petty, later that night telling me it reminded him of me. He was a DJ from LA (LOL) who thought a remix of The Boy Is Mine qualified as a present. The dinner was nice but we broke up that night. Ha.

Saboteur Lace Lined Bralette ($67) by Understatement Underwear

Age: 33

Personal style: Finding more things to love at JJill every time I’m shopping with my mom. Sensible separates, ya’ll!

Why I love this item: My bitties need some assistance to look their best - most bralettes are unlined and do me no favors! Enter the Saboteur - she is anything but! Helps me stay in the moment because I am not worried about an unplanned flop or drop!

Relationship status: OUR FIRST VALENTINES! 😍

Valentine’s Day plans?: We are currently doing the ‘whatever you want to do, babe!’ tango, so I’ve made secret reservations just in case 🤣

Most embarrassing Valentine’s Day memory: Years of trying to strategically book Tinder dates so they had to valentine me.

Collete Feather Pajama Set ($39) by It’s Juliet

Age: 30

Personal style: Comfy, bold, unique

Why I love this item: Obsessed with these PJs because they look SO fancy and make me feel like I’m about to be whisked away on a romantic getaway. (I ACTUALLY BOUGHT THEM FOR MYSELF!)

Relationship status: So single, my cats are my valentines for the 4th year!

Valentine’s Day plans?: I always get myself flowers and sushi for Valentine’s Day, and I’m sure I’ll keep bingeing Big Bang Theory.

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: An ex of mine took me to a Jeff Dunham (ventriloquist) show for Valentine’s Day one year…. So sweet

Satin Bullet Bodysuit ($295) by Fleur du Mal

Age: 45

Personal Style: Lingering hipster single mom who just upgraded to reading glasses (true story!)

Why I love this item: I think this item is SO freaking cute with the retro look of it all! 60's Playboy Bunny, but also there's a pic of Kylie Jenner wearing it soooo...I guess the kids are wearing it too?! A little out of my price range, but maybe you buy this rather than the hotel room?

Relationship status: Single and way overdue to mingle

Valentine’s Day plans: I hear the local ballet is having a performance, so I might take a girlfriend to see it. (did I mention I am ready to mingle??)

Worst Valentines would be when I gave my high school son a Valentine's gift bag as a gift. I asked him if he had bought me anything and he sheepishly looked away from me. When I came home later, my son had wrapped up the bag I had given him and put my name on it. Granted, my son is on the autism spectrum, but still...that was a low blow!

Moonlight Pajamas ($65) by Nordstrom

Age: 34

Personal Style: Gosh, Idk. Part of me is super girly and floral-y. The other side of my style might be ripped jeans, combat boots, a cozy band crewneck sweatshirt? Lots of black. I like whatever is easy to throw on but that shows my personality/interests.

Why I love this item: All of my pairs are ridiculous and ugly patterns that my cousins have gotten me for Christmas. I would love some pajamas that are more grown up or less embarrassing for those unavoidable moments my neighbors see me in PJS while I take the dog out to pee!!

Relationship status: Married, 4.5 years

Valentine’s Day plans: Not sure yet! I think he's scheming?

Most awkward Valentine’s Day memory: My high school boyfriend got really mad at me because someone put a single rose in my locker. A secret admirer who was not him.

Did you ever figure out who it was from?! Well, actually I did know who it was. And I liked them both LOL. But I told him I didn’t know who it was because I didn’t have the desire to dump him over it. Teenage drama!

Alu Aloe Lube ($18) by Dame | Coconut Love Oil ($25) by WOO

Age: 34

Personal Style: It changes daily! Im a 'wake up and see how you feel that morning' kind of person and that decides the style

Why I love these items: I am a huge advocate for lube, massage oils, and anything that enhances the intimate experience. Dame's aloe-based lube and WOO's coconut love oil are great gifts- or anything from those two brands. They are an absolute game changer in the bedroom. I am a huge advocate for keeping them on the bedside table and using them every time.

Relationship status: in a relationship

Valentine’s Day plans: we are going out to dinner

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: I don't have a worst V-day because I've been single for 97 years and I've also chosen to forget about every ex...Looking forward to my first one in a relationship in a while!

Chloe Seamless Bralette + Ruched Ruffle Shorties ($50) by Free people

Age: 32

Personal Style: I'm a jeans and t-shirt girl, but I also love to dress up! I lean towards basics, but I love to add in color, textures, prints, and sparkle! A mix between easy-going, edgy, and fun.

Why I love this item: This set is so cozy and I love that you can throw on the bralette with shorts or a skirt in the summer.

Relationship status: Married for 4.5 years!

Valentine’s Day plans: Not sure if hubby has secret plans, but I'm just hoping for some sushi (at restaurant or take out is fine), some ice cream or chocolate, a good rom-com, and cuddles with our pups!

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: I crushed on this guy in middle school so hard that it was borderline stalker lol. He was super popular and I couldn’t have been more dorky and awkward. There was no chance this guy would’ve ever dated me…until years later when we ran into each other again and he asked me out! I was really into emo music by then—ya know, your typical Myspace Scene Queen—and my entire life revolved around music and going to shows/festivals. My crush was (still) at this point very “bro” and not really my “type” anymore, but he was MY FIRST CRUSH, it didn’t matter. So we go on a double date on VALENTINE’S DAY. He picks me up and the first thing he says is, “So… I hear you like heavy metal music, huh?” smiles and starts blasting Nickelback. I laughed because I thought he was kidding, but he started singing and telling me about how he saw them live recently and it was “so tight”. “Oh no, is this guy for real” I thought. On the drive, he starts telling me how much he LOVES hunting while I’m just sitting there trying to figure out if I’m going to tell him I’m vegan. He tells me in the future, he just wants a relationship like what his parents have, and I’m thinking “aww, sweet” and he says, “where I work and my wife stays at home raising the kids, cleaning, cooking, ya know the dream wife” and I’m just sitting there wanting him to stop saying things that bum me out 😂 We’re a few minutes into the movie (one of the Fast & the Furious movies, by the way—his pick) and he grabs my hand. “It’s actually happening” I thought. This guy’s not my type and he’s kinda not what I pictured, but I’m still in love with him somehow? He makes the move and we kiss and it’s… horrible. He must’ve downed a philly cheesesteak or something beforehand because the kiss was a thick mix of hot breath, beef, cheese, and a little bit of mint, like he had tried to cover it up. I literally COUGHED mid-kiss and it was so awkward that I left to go to the bathroom. I must’ve stayed in there for 20 minutes just freaking out and trying to dry my sweaty armpits with the hand dryer. I finally went back to the movie and apologized, telling him I think I’m feeling sick, and he didn’t try again. But on the way home, he tells me he just doesn’t think I’m his type and apologized, like he had just given me the most devastating news lol. Worst date (and Valentine’s Day) ever.

Women Lace Chiffon See Through Lingerie ($38.74) by MWLingerie

Age: 33

Personal style: None. Zero style. Living in all of my postpartum clothes that are over a year old. And nursing bras even though I'm done nursing. "Mom chic".

Why you like this item: It's so feminine and soft and just pretty. I don't own anything pretty and even if I did, don't have any reason to wear anything this pretty. It's also flowy and forgiving so I wouldn't feel self-conscious about my mom-bod.

Relationship status: We've been married for 5 years, together for 13.

Valentine’s Day plans: HAHAHAHA.

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: I wish I had a good story! I have had lots of good Valentine's days, lots of mediocre Valentine's days, but no really bad ones.

Best Loved Bow Teddy ($29.95) by Yandy

Age: 38

Personal style: Girly, quirky, and colorful

Why you like this item: Felt fun and flirty! I’ve honestly been on a major lingerie kick. Having some sort of sexual revolution over here. Not sure what’s going on but - it’s pretty 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Relationship status: Married, 13 years

Valentine’s Day plans: I’ll be sure to make cute valentines for my kids to pass around, and we will definitely buy/make and eat chocolate covered strawberries! And…def some hanky panky…

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: They’re all the worst once the chocolate runs out 🤷🏼‍♀️

Womens Silk Satin Pajamas ($26.99) by SWOMOG

Age: 36

Personal style: Right now my style is comfy, yet polished when I have to be on client calls! So I wear a lot of black and love Spanx leggings.

Why you like this item: These are the BEST satin pjs on Amazon! And they’re cheap and come in a lot of colors, I have a bunch of the short sets.

Relationship status: Married, 4 years

Valentine’s Day Plans: We will be going to San Antonio for the weekend for Valentine's Day and to celebrate my birthday that's the following week. We're staying on the Riverwalk! So excited for some good food and hopefully good weather. We're also going to take our 20-month old son to the zoo and maybe to see the Alamo or Ripley's Believe It or Not! Wax Museum. It should be a fun-filled weekend.

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: Probably the Valentine's Day I got stuck in Afghanistan at Bagram Airfield. I was a news reporter on an embed assignment with the Army, and our flights home kept getting cancelled and rescheduled days later. At the time I was single and living in Austin, so I wanted to be with my other single girlfriends dancing the night away!

Sieve No-Wire Bra ($65) and High-Waisted Brief ($45) by Negative Underwear

Age: I think i’m 37.

Personal style: These days? Covid comfy. Normally? Basic & chic.

Why you like these items: These days I need to be a remote working mom, and full-time nursing stay at home mom, a sex-engaged wife, and myself. If the underwear doesn’t work for all of these categories, then it doesn’t work for me right now. This set has full coverage, classic colors, a style that works for nursing/nursing pads, and yet the sheer elements still make it super sexy. Winner, winner, vegan chicken dinner.

Relationship status: Married, 8.5 years

Valentine’s Day Plans: the same thing we do every night, pinky

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: Probably the year where the guy I liked casuaaaallly mentioned how stupid he thinks Valentine’s Day is and his ideal woman would think the same. #thankyounext

Smocked Cotton Poplin Pajama Short Set in Rosebud Floral ($98) by J. Crew

Age: 35

Personal style: I love fun, flattering vintage clothing that I find while traveling and at home in Nashville at estate sales.

Why I love these items: I love J Crew for the quality of their products. Their items hold up and are well designed.

Relationship status: I’ve been married for 5 years.

Valentine’s Day plans: I’ll be in Mexico celebrating my mom’s 60th birthday!

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: Oh goodness…This is painful to remember. After modge podging my little heart out, I made an adorable bird house & handmade card for my then boyfriend. I was so excited to give him his gifts so when he picked me up he saw what I was holding and froze and said “oh I didn’t get you anything.” I felt so stupid in my pink dress and done up hair. I broke up with him shortly after. There was a common denominator of me going above and beyond for that scrub who couldn’t ride to any occasion. Oops I said what I said.

Eco Cotton Large Logo Detail Lingerie Set in Black ($59.80) by Calvin Klein

Age: 37

Personal Style: loves a good current trend, prefers comfier styles and am somewhat modest - I always want to leave a good bit to the imagination :) Also like to mix masculine and feminine pieces together in my daily wardrobe

Why I love this item: It's on trend, I think it would make me feel sexy and it's also comfortable without being too revealing, not overly feminine.

Relationship status: Casually dating

Valentine's Day Plans: Tentatively going to drinks and the Dua Lipa concert with some girlfriends!

Worst V Day Memory: 2009, sitting at my friend's house while we did laundry. We thought that we were the biggest losers on the planet being at home doing mundane chores while a lot of our friends were out on dates with boys.

Silky Mesh Bouquet Bundle in Techno Bloom ($56) by Parade

Age: 36 but I identify as 65 most days

Personal style: Pretty minimalist these days but trying to break out of my shell of soft clothes and grays and blacks every now and then

Why I love these items: I’m obsessed with Parade. I’ve pretty much replaced all of my underwear with this brand. They’re so comfy and well-made, and they’re sustainably focused and size-inclusive. This floral print is flirty and fun, and the box set makes it a great gift! Also, you can wear it beyond Valentine’s Day. Love a practical purchase!

Relationship status: Married, 7 years

Valentine’s Day plans: We haven’t made plans yet. We’ll probably get take out and watch a cheesy rom-com or binge the last season of “Search Party”

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: One year I drove home to surprise my boyfriend for V-day. He pretty much dumped me on the spot, so I immediately turned back around and drove to Atlanta where I racked up a major speeding ticket (91mph in a 70 from a state trooper). My former neighbor and another one of my guy friends accompanied me to a restaurant where they watched me stuff my face with cheesecake and pout about my miserable life. Fun times!

Be Mine Candy Charcuterie Board ($120) by Sweet Lolli

Age: 34

Personal style: during the covid era “cozy and comfy”

Why I love this item: Screw lingerie - I want candy! It’s a gift I normally wouldn’t buy myself, but it’s cute and you can customize the message to make it personal/sentimental.

Relationship status: Married almost 8 years

Valentine’s Day plans: We plan to go out to a nice dinner downtown and grab a few drinks after. Nothing crazy but good food and good company is my love language.

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: I honestly don’t have any terrible vday memories, probably because I’ve never put much expectation on the day.

Classic PJ Set ($120) by Recliner

Age: 36

Personal style: edgy minimalist

Why I love this item: It’s sleek, cozy and comfy! I can wear it to chase children, sleep, and feel slightly put together.

Relationship status: Married, 8 years

Valentine’s Day plans: A steak dinner Friday for date night, then chilling with the kiddos on the official day!

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: It was super snowy and I had just been dumped so my friend asked me to dinner and promised to drive me safely in the snow. He had plans to make this a “thing” rather than just friends hanging out. Made it mega awk to have to tell him how it was, especially on 2/14…

Brooklyn Oversized Hoodie ($245) and Short ($155) by Cotton Citizen

Age: 37

Personal style: I would say my personal style is thrown together comfortable chic

Why I love these items: I love this set bc it is sooooo soft, I love the oatmeal color bc it makes me look more tan, and obviously comfort.

Relationship status: Married almost 8 years

Valentine’s Day plans: For Valentine’s Day this year, we have our 2 day nationals cheer competition for our 4 year old toddler, and are going out to dinner that Sunday night after the comp to our fav Benihana, and I’m sure when we get home will be watching the Righteous Gemstones and 90 day fiancé.

Worst V-day Memory: Worst Valentine’s Day memory would be in 4th grade, a boy got my a giant ass teddy bear, and diamond earrings and brought it to school. I later found out from his friends that he rubbed his balls on the bear, which I didn’t even know what that meant at the time, and then his mom called my mom to get the earrings back bc they were HERS, and then he broke up with me the next day bc there was a girl that looked like me in the 5th grade, but she was “stacked”…. Which I also didn’t know what that meant… so I asked around…she had bigger tits than me… jokes on you, Curt Owen…Look who is stacked now, bitch.

Silk Sleep Tank ($118) and Pant ($138) by Skims

Age: 34 years old

Personal style: Easy to wear, mainly neutrals with the occasional neon. I love textured fabrics like chunky knits and wovens. Always oversized.

Why I love these items: Silk is the most luxurious of all night-wear fabrics and I love the chic neutrals these pieces come in. The silk fabric has 5% spandex which most everyone can appreciate! I also really appreciate that Skims is size inclusive. I have found myself only willing to splurge on brands that make that size inclusivity effort lately!

Relationship status: married, 8 years

Valentine’s Day plans: Sharing a heart shape pizza and pillsbury heart sugar cookies with my husband and kids.

Worst Valentine’s Day memory: Freshman year of college, I had made friends with a guy that I thought I was in love with (LOL) and was devastated that he didn’t ask me out for Valentine’s Day. I went out to dinner with some friends wearing all black and could barely keep myself from crying at the restaurant. (The all-black tradition continued the remainder of college.) The following Valentine’s Day this same guy actually DID ask me out, and I went with him to the Cheesecake Factory, as friends, as I’d already moved on to my next unrequited crush. After that, I realized going on a date for Valentine’s Day was not a big deal to me and was able to start enjoying the holiday with my Galentines/Palentines :)

Thank you so much to everyone who participated this year! Find any favorite pieces? Do you have a nightmarish V-day story? You better share!
