My Top 5 Ride or Die Picks for National Lipstick Day

Nothing gives you an instant boost like putting on a bold lip. It’s basically a scientific fact! So in honor of National Lipstick Day I thought I’d share some of my faves and pictures of me wearing them so you can see if they might be a good fit for you, too! Pucker up, babes!

Mac Matte Lipstick in "Chili"

I used to wear this burnt red shade exclusively in the fall and winter, but I’ve transitioned to wearing it year round whenever I need a little DRAMA. It’s a comfort matte that doesn’t bleed and has serious staying power. Every time I wear it I get loads of compliments, and honestly, I’m just here to give the people what they want so Chili will be kicking it in my purse for the foreseeable future.

Tarte Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in "Birthday Suit"

I got a sample of this once, and I immediately purchased the full size version. It’s a pinky brown that would complement a range of skintones and (depending on what I eat for lunch) has been able to last just about all day. Layer on a few coats for a darker hue or a light swipe for the perfect, barely-there lip. It’s opaque and has a strong matte finish, which I prefer. To me, it’s the perfect neutral. It’s also 25% off today!

Beautycounter "Rosewood" Lip Trio

My friend Taylor gifted me this set for my birthday, and I recently got around to testing it out because I *try* to finish one product before opening another. And when I finally used it, I was so mad at myself for sleeping on it for so long! The set contains a lipgloss, a sheer lipstick, and a color intense lipstick. For me, the real hero is the sheer lipstick. It’s comfortable, doesn’t bleed, and has staying power for a sheer! The color is a little darker than Birthday Suit (I tend to apply a light coat!), but I kind of love that about it. I also like to put a veeeery light coat of the sheer lipstick and layer the gloss on top for a more natural look, as you can see in the first pic. I never knew I could be a gloss person!

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick in "Lovecraft"

This is another product that I received a sample of and haven’t been able to part with since. Like, I have a longterm relationship with this lipstick. The pinky mauve shade pretty matte, so sometimes I layer a lip balm over the top for a little extra moisture. It’s opaque and has serious staying power. The color doesn’t budge at all. It’s kind of my holy grail and guaranteed to go with just about whatever I wear.

Mac Amplified Lipstick in "Blankety"

I know I already put a MAC lipstick on here, and the truth is I could put about 8 more because WOW they really know what they’re doing in the lipstick department. Blankety is a light nudey pink shade that is just *chef’s kiss* and has color pay-off without being super opaque. Also, it’s very comfortable to wear and doesn’t bleed. It’s kind of my go-to shade when my hair is pink (which tends to be more often than the average person). And looking at these photos kind of makes me want to call my stylist. Carly, if you’re reading this, don’t get mad, but…

In doing this post I’ve noticed I used to wear a lot more red tones but have transitioned to more pink tones as of late. Not sure if I’m following trends or if my tastes are just changing! One thing that remains the same — I’m still mostly a matte lipstick wearer.

What are your go to shades? Any lipstick brands that you’re obsessed with? Hit me up in the comments — I’d love to know!
