GG S1 E6 Parentsite

The show opens with Gossip Girl saying that while the teens she obsesses over have the luxury of choice in most things in their life, no one gets to pick their family.

Aki, Obie, and Max starting their days with their parental figures. We haven’t seen half the cast’s parents since the opening episode, which feels kind of strange, especially considering how much air time the teachers get. Aki is the only one who’s actually with his mom. Max is with the family chef, and Obie is intruded upon by his mom’s assistant (I’m assuming?).

Obie and Zoya attempt to text each other, but both ultimately decline. I’m thinking our Zobie days are numbered…A message comes through to Zoya’s phone, and I get excited thinking Obie might’ve made an effort. But no. It’s a Gossip Girl post about Obie’s mom arriving in New York via private jet. Zoya looks rattled.

Audrey is seated next to her ailing mother, draped over the hospital bed.

Julien is scrolling Obie’s IG page, a natural progression from reading about his Gossip Girl alert, and her dad walks in. He’s concerned about her PSAT scores that she hid from him because they were apparently pretty bad, and she says she was planning on retaking them. He’s on the typical parent “you need something to fall back on besides my personal wealth” and this seems like a conversation you would have prior to your kid turning 17 but my parents didn’t have much so sponging off of them was never part of my long term plans lol. He wants her to get a good education. She wants to “build her brand” which we keep hearing about, but yeah, I don’t really know what she’s doing. She says she hasn’t really tried to make a career out of that yet, but she totally can and it’s totally sustainable. Davis isn’t buying it, and he says Julien can show him what she’s talking about but she has to retake the PSATs. I thought PSATs were a one time thing? I only took those once and the actual SATs once, and I turned out fine. Sort of. J texts Luna that they need to talk, and I’m sure it’s not about getting a sponsorship with one of those SAT tutoring services, but what do I know?

At breakfast with her dad, Zoya is annoyed that Nick is breaking the “no phones at the table” policy. He lies and says he’s texting another lawyer, but Zoya can see that he’s texting Ms. Keller (NOOOOOOOOO!). They have a quick heart to heart at the table that ends with Zoya encouraging her dad to ask for what he wants, saying she’ll do the same.

Back at the hospital, Aki has shown up with some not great wardrobe options and is trying to coerce Audrey to go to school. She hasn’t been in a week because she’s been so busy advocating for her mom’s health, but he assures her that the doctors can handle this. She obviously needs some sort of normalcy in her life, even if it’s just going to school. Max shows up with breakfast in a picnic basket. AWWW! And I’m trying not to feel inferior that a 20-something pretending to be a 17 year old character on a TV show is a better cook than I am (but it is not working). Rafa texts Max multiple times, and Aki asks if he’s still talking to him, but he says he’s done and blocks his number. He tells Aki he was right. Audrey reluctantly leaves with the guys for her first break from the hospital since her mom entered on Halloween.

On the way to school, Kate is going over her new hyper-organized system for managing the GG account. She’s relinquished a good bit of control, and I honestly can’t believe it. I wonder if it’s because she made multiple mentions in the last episode about taking a break. Or maybe she’s dividing up the responsibilities so she’s not the only one liable when they inevitably get caught! As she’s going through the way she wants to handle the account moving forward, she receives a text from Zoya’s dad asking her to stay for dinner after Zoya’s tutoring session. Don’t forget! Jordan awkwardly asked her out in the last episode. Do we think this spells trouble? Because I could def see him having a few too many at that bar he says he frequents every night and posting some nonsense to get her attention. Keller agrees to dinner, and Jordan asks if she was agreeing to get dirt, or if she has other reasons. She claims it’s purely work related and he has nothing to worry about.

At school, Luna and Julien are having a photoshoot. Monet is notably absent. And J’s heart just isn’t in it. She’s stressed out about her AM chat with her dad. Audrey wanders over and she’s a mess. I worry no one will pay any real attention to her, but Julien consoles her and promises Audrey she’ll be the first to know if anything happens with her mom. Audrey calls the hospital again, and Julien and Luna commit to a plan to make her brand financially viable. Timeless. This all seems extreme, and I’m wondering what Luna is capable of without the aid of Monet. She tells Julien to keep her evening open because she’s going to make some calls…

Max walks up the front steps of the school, and Rafa is waiting. He thinks this is all a game and seems all in for the thrill of the chase, but Max isn’t playing. He tells him to move on from him and any other student at that school, and he promises to speak up if he sees him up to his old antics. It’s pretty gross to see a grown ass adult chasing around a teenager, but that’s what’s happening I guess.

Inside of school, Zoya tries to extend well wishes to Audrey who is unable to receive them, given her fractured mental state. She’s on the phone with a hospital employee barking orders but manages to squeeze in a comment about Julien and Obie flirting in the courtyard. Julien is seeking out advice from Obie to prove to her dad that she’s a real business lady and not some silly teenager snapping photos on her phone all day. She wants to use her platform as a force for good and Obie can’t believe what he’s hearing. He’s impressed and can tell that she’s making changes. Zoya walks up and is clearly thrown by their AM rendezvous, but rather than make a catty remark, she tells Julien that she can’t wait to hear what she’s up to. Turning the conversation back to Obie, she asks when she gets to meet his mom. He says he probably won’t even get to see her, and Julien seems surprised to learn she’s there. Maybe she missed the early morning GG blast? She’s meeting with Aki’s dad and likely leaving again. I’m curious who’s actually responsible for Obie because it seems like he has absent parents. I know he’s almost an adult and richer than God, so he wants for nothing tangible. But this doesn’t feel right. She invites Obie over for dinner, but he declines saying he has ball tryouts. They kiss and get up from the table. Julien pulls Zoya aside tries to figure out what’s going on, but Zoya doesn’t really know. She says things have been off since the whole Simon thing and they haven’t talked about it, or anything, for that matter. J tries to give her some sisterly advice and claims Obie is terrified of his mom, and that when they were dating, she had to track her down and introduce herself. Zoya says she doesn’t play that way, but Julien’s like “you’re the most confrontational person I know” and EXCUSE ME I’m pretty sure that’s Monet. There’s a difference between being confrontational and standing your ground, but I’m from the south and it took me a long time to learn the difference, so I guess I’ll give her a pass.

Aki looks out the window to find Audrey fleeing the campus, and he and Max don’t stop her. They agree to share responsibilities keeping tabs on her, and Max makes some joke about Aki being a “good bi-friend,” which concerns Aki. No one else knows about his “secret” and Max agrees to keep it under wraps. They walk off, and Rafa has witnessed this entire interaction. Determined, he finds Kate in the hall and offers to insert himself into her “little project”, but she declines. I told you this was going to come back and bite her in the ass! Kate’s just laminated and color-coded this whole operation, and there’s no way she’s doing that mess all over again. But Rafa doubles down that he’s on the inside: he knows where these kids go after school, and he goes there, too! UMMMM at what point do we call the police??? Kate gives him the menial task of reporting copycat accounts, and you know he isn’t gonna do any of that. He tells her he has a big tip, and this is bad bad bad.

Screen Shot 2021-08-13 at 7.02.39 AM.png

Zoya is at some fancy salon crashing Obie’s mom’s hair appointment, and it does not go well. Obie’s mom, Helena, who obviously does not appreciate this, has no idea who Zoya is and ask if this is a prank (OUCH). She said she thinks she’d know if Obie had a girlfriend that wasn’t Julien, and Zoya hands over her iPhone with the “zobiestan” instagram account pulled up. She quickly changes her tune and apologizes. She offers to take Zoya out to lunch or let her join their dinner with Aki’s family, but Zoya has plans three-wheeling with her dad and her fave teacher #barf so she declines. She learns that Helena’s trip wasn’t a surprise and seems hurt to be left out of Obie’s life in such a way. The front desk girl snaps some pics of Zoya and Obie’s mom and she should not go undetected BUT SHE DOES.

Zoya calls Julien and tells her about Obie’s lie. Julien tries to console her. She’s very adamant that Zoya needs to get herself over to that dinner and meet Helena properly. Davis seems touched while listening in on Julien’s pep talk to her sister. He can tell she’s making a real effort to use her influence for good. They walk into Dumbo Hall, and I’m confused because having your dad in a place where underage drinking is rampant seems like a poor idea? But I’m poor so what the hell do I know HAHA *cries* Luna is also confused, but Julien says she values her dad’s opinion, so she wants him there. Luna has corralled a few beauty reps at the bar, and Davis is impressed. She says Julien is the impressive one, and that’s how she got them there on such short notice.

Meanwhile at a date I never wanted to be a part of on the Upper West Side, Nick and Kate are discussing Zoya’s extraordinary scholastic abilities. Kate asks if she got that from her mom and then apologizes for bringing her up. He says he loves talking about Zoya’s mom because it helps him keep from forgetting her 🥺 I would just like to state that I don’t hate Zoya’s dad OR Kate (I guess), I just don’t want Zoya to become wrapped up in Kate’s “little project” and her and Zoya’s dad dating seems like a surefire way for that to happen. Nick is talking about Marion, Zoya’s mom, and she could not be more different than Kate. He describes her as confident and comfortable in who she is as a person. Kate? Ehhhh not so much. Zoya rejoins the two just as her dad is asking Kate out for a dinner, sans Zoya, and she’s dressed up to meet Obie’s mom for real. IDK if she called first. Julien encouraged her to reach out to Obie, but she might be pulling a renegade move here. Nick agrees, and I’m not sure if it’s because he’s in a good mood or if he’s looking to have some private time with Kate. She leaves, and Kate asks, “how about tonight?”

Back at the hospital, Aki shows up to relieve Max (no, not like that LOL) and Audrey is literally terrorizing the hospital staff. A physician actually asks Aki to remove Audrey because they’re getting complaints from everyone — patients included. Speaking of complaints, Max’s phone blows up because of a Gossip Girl post stating he has STDs, and Max is surprisingly chill about it, calling it “Rafa’s Revenge.” Is it just me, or does “Rafa’s Revenge” sounds like something you get when you eat local food in a foreign country that your digestive system isn’t particularly used to? Max expects that there’s more to come, and Aki says not to expect anything from him until he gets things cleared up.

Zobie arrive at dinner together, and Obie apologizes for not knowing how to introduce Zoya to his mom. He seems on edge. Aki’s dad, who seems to be more than a little paranoid/rich/both has a no phones policy at dinner and has apparently bought out the restaurant they’re dining in as well as provided the staff. Obie’s mom and Aki’s dad both give Zoya a warm greeting, and you think this is going to be low-key after all, but no. Audrey has arrived, and she is immediately on the rampage. She’s upset she doesn’t have a seat. She criticizes Zoya’s dress (which Helena uses as an opportunity to compliment Zoya/chide Audrey for her appearance). When Aki’s dad said he was sorry to her about Kiki, Audrey lays into him about his magazine’s constant scrutiny over her mom’s failing business. Aki grabs at his collar. We are all stressed except Aki’s dad, Roger, who seems unbothered (what is his secret?????). Zoya, initially tight-lipped, takes a cue from Audrey and makes a jab at Roger about wire-tapping.

At Dumbo Hall, Julien is being courted by several brands and corporations about why she should work with them, and from what I’m hearing, none of them seem like a great fit. Julien has a lot of power here, clearly, but she wants to play by her own rules. One of the brand representatives comments that her company can “remake” her into “something more profitable” and the use of the word “something” makes this all very real for Julien. Even though this may be more fun than other things she could be getting paid to do, at the end of the day, it’s still a job. Is she willing to make the sacrifices necessary to further her “brand’s” viability?

Back at dinner, Helena and Roger seem to be interested in learning more about Zoya, but they literally interrupt her at every turn. Audrey is being downright nasty; however, Zoya fires a few shots of her own, coming for Roger and his right-wing propaganda machine. Even Audrey is surprised! She eggs her on, and Roger says he appreciates that she has strong opinions. But Zoya says her opinions are actually facts and informs the table that there have been protests all week at the development Helena is trying to get Roger to relocate to. Z gets a condescending “Zoya…” from Obie. Zoya goes toe to toe with Helena and tells her that Obie protests at that development all the time, and I’m not so sure he wanted that to be public information? Helena excuses herself to call Obie’s dad, and Audrey decides now is a good time to call the hospital. Zoya is frustrated that Obie won’t stand up to his mother, and I am frustrated that I don’t have a beautiful accent like Obie’s mother, and we’re all just having a time.

Max goes to Rafa’s house, who is laughing as he crosses the threshold. This is obviously a game to Rafa, and when Max tells him that what he’s doing is harassment, Rafa pulls the classic “you started it” and it’s like yes, that’s true, but Max is not an adult. You are. Please stop this is weird and wildly inappropriate. Max says he’d rather screw no one than screw Rafa again, and that’s really saying something for someone who, in his own words, apparently diddled “half of Kings County.” Max leaves and Rafa immediately pulls up Max’s dad’s dating profile. I do not like where this is going.

Screen Shot 2021-08-13 at 4.03.37 PM.png

At a much more pleasant gathering across town, Nick and Kate are discussing Kate’s upbringing and the path that got her where she is now. He’s impressed that she’s teaching at 24, claiming most of his teachers were “grandparents,” and this is rich coming from someone whose kid is closer to his date’s age than he is LOL. He asks about her writing, and truthfully, I can’t say much about it because I relate to it waaaaaay too much, but she basically says she always wanted to be great at something and when she found it (being a writer), she couldn’t stop comparing herself to someone else who wasn’t as talented but was more successful (STOP ATTACKING ME LIKE THIS). She states that she writes for herself. Not everyone can be the best, and she’s resigned that who she is now is maybe better for the world. Nick is like “you mean teaching” and she’s all “uhhhh YES.” Writing garbage social media posts is not better for the world KATE. Omg who am I, Davis?

As they’re wrapping up their meeting, Julien is approached by someone from Sephora who says the company will give her free rein to post whatever and whenever, and it’s a 2 year non-exclusive contract. They tick a lot of boxes for Julien in that they care about and actually focus on inclusion and growing as a company. She hands Julien her business card, and says J would be the youngest influencer they’ve every contracted. She’s excited and flattered.

J is so excited. It’s good to see her focusing on herself and doing something positive instead of trying to wreck Zoya’s life or whatever.

Back at the dinner from HELL, Audrey is still panicking over not being in the hospital to micromanage her mother’s care. Aki tries to reassure her that everything is under control. Zoya tries to grab Obie’s hand, and he shakes her off. Roger is frustrated by a lawsuit that won’t go away. Zoya, who apparently is cosplaying as an investigative journalist at this dinner, is asking a lot of questions. Audrey, in her first sympathetic gesture of the whole episode, reaches out for Aki’s hand. Obie is uncomfortable and practically begging Zoya to STFU. Roger explains what happened and says his company actually offers benefits that a lot of companies don’t to partners (not just spouses). Zoya is frustrated by the collective term Roger uses to identify his employees preferences. Aki sighs and leaves the room, which is basically his version of having a fit. Audrey, who takes a break from screaming at the hospital staff to pop off at Roger, says that he can’t just assume how everyone at the table identifies. It’s quickly apparent that she’s said too much. Aki is his dad’s favorite child, and from what we’ve learned this evening, information about his sexual preferences might make his dad feel otherwise. Although, it appears Roger still isn’t all the way clued in because he immediately turns to Zoya. Obie, finally claiming Zoya for the first time all evening, informs Roger that she’s his girlfriend. And then Aki’s mom straight up asks Audrey if she’s talking about her son. Audrey returns her focus to her phone call and stammers as she hauls it to the bathroom to freak out about the fact that she just outed her boyfriend to his parents and OMG. Zoya comes in there and was like “girl wtf was THAT” and Audrey begins to spiral but then changes trajectory that this is actually Aki’s fault because she didn’t want to attend this dumb dinner anyways and he knew it!!!! Zoya says she has to tell Aki, and Audrey literally threatens arson in Zoya’s name if she shares Aki’s secret, so who knows how this will pan out.

A MOOD

A MOOD

Nick and Kate’s date has come to an end, and he tries to get her to come upstairs for a nightcap, but a cab pulls up and she decides to go home. Solo. He thanks her for being someone Zoya can trust (NOPE). She offers to cook next time and while all of this is happening I’m expecting Jordan to be in a bush nearby watching this all go down with his lip quivering furiously or something. She gets in the cab and there’s a GG blast that I think is going to be about Rafa and Max, but it’s about Nick and Kate and OH MY GOD he was right there the whole time!!!!!!!! She barely even spit her address out before the post came through. Dude moves quick! He nonchalantly waves off Kate as she drives past, horrified. I guess this turns the focus away from her being the only person behind GG, but dang! Feels a lot like retaliation on Jordan’s part for not going out with him, and Jordan, KATE DOESN’T OWE YOU 💩 BRO.

Audrey sprints out of the building to a nearby cab in an attempt to remove herself from this god awful situation (that she’s partially responsible for), and Aki is there to send her off. Audrey says she miiiiiight’ve said something to his parents that she shouldn’t have, and he brushes it off. He’s so sweet. This poor guy. He has no clue what’s about to hit him LOL. He joins his mom, and Zoya exits the building behind Helena and an irate Obie. Zoya is surprised that her commentary has left her boyfriend unamused, and they have a tête-à-tête in the street over her flagrant behavior. She’s offended, but I’m with Obie on this one. Going in for the kill on the first real meeting with his mom is not the way. She tries to put the blame on him, but he dishes it right on back. Okay, I’ll give it to Julien, Z’s been extremely confrontational all night. Zoya tries to come at him for making googly eyes at Julien, and he is over it. Helena calls for him, and Z demands that he tell her they’re still talking. Obie leaves with his mom who offers a polite goodbye that Zoya doesn’t really deserve. I wish they’d make sure she had a way home, but other than that, yeah — I wouldn’t have been feeling her vibe for the night either.

Screen Shot 2021-08-13 at 5.16.33 PM.png

Deciding to have a street fight of her own, Kate has pulled her cab over and is accosting Jordan for following her and making her the target of a post. He’s clearly bothered that Kate has romantic interest in Nick, and honestly, that’s her business. Jordan is talking fast and making metaphors that don’t exactly track and he says Kate has blurred the boundaries too much. In his opinion, if she’s going to play God, she has to be above it all. If Kate had any sense, she would shut this whole operation down NOW, but she’s a little wine drunk and caught off guard by Jordan, so she won’t.

Julien and her hot dad are walking home after a celebratory froyo date, and he tells her he’s proud of her for taking things seriously and using her platform for good. He tries to talk to her about Obie, and she confesses that she maybe still has some little baby feelings for him, but he’s with Zoya so she’s leaving them alone. To her surprise, Obie is standing outside her building when they return, and it seems like this is an event staged by her dad, but things go sour preeeeetty quick. Leave it to dudes to kick you when you’re on a high! He accuses Julien of trying to ruin his life by encouraging Zoya to ambush his mom earlier, go to dinner, and just be herself really. He accuses her of plotting to blow everything up, which is fair because she’s def done her fair share of damage. But she says she wants both of them to be happy, and tearfully tells him he should leave. She insists that this is partially his fault for not being his true self with his mom. There’s definitely a lingering moment here. Hm…

The next morning Max gets a message from Rafa that says, “someone says hi” alongside a photo of Max’s dad. This is getting more disturbing by the minute. Julien is watching Obie’s IG page, and he’s protesting at the Navy Yard. Davis walks in and encourages her to join in, saying her mom would drag them down there if she were still alive. At Zoya’s house, Nick is looking at his phone like a sullen teenager because Kate left him on read since last night. Zoya, the actual sullen teenager in the household, hints that she might’ve said a little too much at dinner. She asks her dad how to know when it’s right to speak up, and he gives some solid advice that makes Zoya immediately grab her phone. She checks Obie’s IG, and she also sees him at the Navy Yard protest. She hops up to join him. Will there be a sibling showdown at this protest?? Audrey is on the phone with Aki and, upon receiving a concerning medical update about Kiki, he offers to come down to the hospital right away. Audrey says that isn’t necessary and tries to feel him out for whether his parents have made any comments about her comments from the night before, just as Aki’s mom walks into his bedroom (that is BEAUTIFUL btw) with a troubled stare. She asks him about Max, but Aki insists that he’s just helping with Audrey and kicks her out. She tells him that his dad is doing a tour with Helena at the Navy Yard and offers to go with him so his dad can see him one final time before he leaves, but he says he knows his way there. Sensing her presence is unwanted, she leaves.

Kiki is alive!!! She immediately starts apologizing to Audrey and tells her she knows she’s been there all week. She’s sorry she tried to do everything herself, and they have a heartfelt moment that makes me tear up a little. Emily Lind is an amazing actress, btw! Audrey says she doesn’t have to do everything on her own and that if she needs help, all she has to do is ask for it. Kiki says she needs help and they hug and this moment is immediately ruined by RAFA GD IT.

Max tells his dad that Rafa is more than his teacher. His dad said he figured that out, and that Rafa manipulated him into coming over for a drink to talk about Max, but then didn’t bring him up at all so he left. What in the F. Max asks his dad if he’s had any other “rendezvous” since he left, and he tells him that’s none of his business (which is true). He says his Fancy Dad, Gideon, cries himself to sleep every night, and that he needs to show up for him, too. He tells his dad to stay away from Rafa, and I barely know what’s happening because omg his eyes are so blue and beautiful and WOWWWW.

😍😍😍😍😍😍

😍😍😍😍😍😍

Julien arrives at the protest, and this is clearly her first rodeo because she looks v lost. She and Obie apologize to each other, and he says being his authentic self has him feeling better than he has in a long time. She takes one of his signs, and just as I’m like “oh crap I bet Zoya’s about to show up” OH 💩💩💩💩 Zoya has shown up and the sight of the two of them together makes her head for the hills. I don’t blame her. Usually, when you’re worried about someone, you have a reason to be. Buuut that’s just my experience! Julien runs off after her while Obie just stands there. There’s a lot of booing in the background. Roger and Helena are exiting the building, and Aki walks up. Mr. Both Sides is seemingly unbothered by his dad’s beliefs and rises above the noise. Helena asks if Aki knows where Obie is, and he points at the crowd. Obie stares deep into his mom’s soul with his homemade poster and chants along with the others. A reporter asks Roger about the lawsuit, and in a move that I DID NOT SEE COMING his dad outs him to the entire world saying he can’t be homophobic because his son is gay and just leaves him standing there like ?????? Y’all, the way I screamed. Omg. Aki corrects the reporter that he isn’t gay, he’s bi. But she’s uninterested in listening and he’s left alone, collateral damage like many that have had the misfortune of being in his father’s path. Obie looks over and there’s no way he actually heard all of this but he somehow does and is not making the best face.

Julien finally catches up with Zoya, and Z accuses her sister of scheming to get back into Obie’s good graces. Julien swears that wasn’t her end game, and Zoya asks her point blank if she’s in love with Obie. She doesn’t want to answer because she knows how damaging the truth will be for Zoya, but Zoya insists. Julien finally admits she still has feelings for Obie, and when she asks if Zoya still does, Z leaves.

Across the crowd, Obie’s mom is pleading with him to leave because she’s called the police and things are about to get ugly. Obie realizes that she prioritizes her property over the wellbeing of the protestors and homeless population that rely on that shelter, and swats her hand away. To Helena’s horror, he recedes back into the crowd. Gossip Girl says there’s a point when you realize that your parents aren’t God — that they’re human just like you. And in this moment, Obie has come to that realization.

Max texts Rafa that he isn’t the only one that can play dirty as he sends an indiscernible photo or video directly to Gossip Girl…

Julien receives a call from Sephora that warns her against participating in protests because their tendency to turn violent would alienate some of their consumers. Julien tells her to screw off, and Obie walks up. He’s overheard her conversation because apparently he has bionic hearing or something. He comments that she’s changed, but she says he’s just growing into who she’s meant to be. He makes the googly eyes at her, and she’s like NUH UH. The two of them walk back towards the crowd.

Kate is composing a text to Nick while Jordan watches nearby. She tells that after careful consideration, she thinks the two of them need to keep things “strictly professional.” I feel for her because this obviously isn’t what she wants, it’s what Jordan wants, and I think he’s manipulating her into making decisions she doesn’t want to under the guise of it being “the right thing to do.”

Max is already at Audrey’s apartment when Aki arrives. She’s prepared a thank you feast for the guys, and they seem to have buried the hatchet pretty quick considering they’ve all hooked up with one another behind each other’s backs recently!

Wendy calls Kate and Jordan about a VERY graphic video that has come through the GG account. They haven’t seen it, and when they go to the account, there’s the message Max sent over. It’s a sex tape of him and Rafa. They watch the whole thing once before the message immediately disappears, and Kate remembers that she gave Rafa access to GG (LIKE AN IDIOT). CHANGE. THE PASSWORD. NOW. She asks if he knows they saw it since he deleted it, which just proves how out of their league they actually are at this because you can easily tell which messages are unread. THEY ARE THE ONES IN BOLD TYPE.

Back at Audrey’s apartment with the threesome literally even blind people saw coming, Max finishes off his drink and stands up to leave. Audrey tells him he doesn’t have to, and asks Aki what he thinks. Max is surprised they don’t want their privacy, and with Aki’s “what’s private from you,” the Audrey grabs Max by the cable knit and goes in for the kill. The three of them are going at it and again, I screamed at my computer LOL. Are people having threesomes in high school? They aren’t, right? I don’t know if I’m cut out to be a parent?

Screen Shot 2021-08-13 at 6.05.16 PM.png

Max gets a call from his dad, and I’m wondering if Rafa has contacted him again and is threatening to blackmail the family with a sex tape. Nothing would surprise me at this point. Okay, I guess the call was actually from Roger, and he tells him he knows he’s angry with him (doesn’t seem angry at all actually), but to stay away from Julien. Whaaaaat?

Speaking of Julien, while the rest of the protestors are facing police officers in riot gear and swarming helicopters, Obie has grabbed her hand and whisked her away for a makeout session. Poor Zoya. She at least deserves the dignity of a breakup first! Noble O my ass!

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

I LOVED IT.

FAVORITE MOMENT

Audrey’s bathroom meltdown was incredible.

FAVORITE OUTFIT

Didn’t have a super favorite, but I love Julien’s oversized Tommy Hilfiger jacket! #nostalgia

Screen Shot 2021-08-13 at 6.24.44 PM.png

BEST LINE

“Please regale us with the history of its chief export, chicken wings” Audrey, talking to Zoya about her hometown of Buffalo, NY.

FUN FACT

The first season of the GG reboot is actually 12 episodes divided into 2 parts. So this is a mid-series finale, and we don’t have air dates yet for part 2. According to the GG Instagram, we can expect episode 7 to air in November!

BIGGEST QUESTION

Will the teachers do anything about Rafa now that they know he’s sexually involved with a student?? They could change the PW to the GG instagram and contact Max directly for the video, but if they shared the video with the authorities, they’d be asked how they apprehended it, thus blowing their cover as GG. Will any of them grow a freaking conscience? These people got their friend fired from her job over this, so ima say PROB NOT.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

RAFA. My god.

PREDICTIONS

Rafa co-opts Gossip Girl and at some point, gets himself arrested. Max, Audrey, and Aki don’t know how to move forward in their throuple, and it is awkward for all of them (except Max because he’s not unnerved by much). Maybe Rafa tries to get Max kicked out of school? Kate can’t help but get involved with Zoya’s dad. Zoya and Julien fight because Obie tells her the truth. Zoya starts scheming to wreak havoc on her sister’s life for a change. This is a lot of predictions so I’m gonna stop here, ha!

SO MUCH TO UNPACK THIS EPISODE. And now we have a break for a few months! HOW DO YOU FEEL?
